Reception Idea for a Quinceanera

A Quinceanera is a Hispanic tradition that celebrates a young girl coming of age on her 15th birthday. It is traditionally a formal occasion and the birthday girl will normally wear a ball gown. Those she chooses to be in her court will also wear gowns or tuxedos. After the traditional church ceremony, the family holds a reception, which should complement the girl's personality. Choosing a theme to incorporate into the celebration is the perfect way to create a memorable event. Does this Spark an idea?

Viva Mexico

A "Viva Mexico" theme is a great way for someone with Mexican heritage to incorporate more of her culture into her Quinceanera reception. Decorate the party area with red, white and green streamers and balloons, since these are the colors of the Mexican flag. Rent or buy white table linens to decorate the food table, gift table and dining tables. For table centerpieces, fill crystal vases with red and white roses or carnations. Various strands of beads in red, white and green can be draped around the vases for a more elaborate look.

Hang posters of locations in Mexico on the walls and use strands of white lights as the main source of lighting. Additional items, like sombreros, maracas and pinatas, can be placed strategically around the room to give it a more authentic feel. Set up a dance area to entertain the guests. In addition to the current popular music, play various Mexican songs. A build-your-own taco or burrito bar can be set up on a food table for the guests to enjoy.

Cinderella

For the girl whose dream has always been to be a princess, a Cinderella-themed Quinceanera reception is ideal. Start by decorating the party area like a ballroom fit for a princess. Place fake white pillars at the entryway and roll out a white carpet for guests to walk on. Sprinkle gold confetti over the white carpet to make it more elaborate. Purchase balloons, streamers and table linens in white and baby blue. Twist and tape the streamers to add decoration to the ceiling, tie the balloons in bunches and place them throughout the room.

Cover the dining and food tables with white linens and the gift table with gold table linens, then sprinkle gold glitter across the tables to make them shine. Use candles liberally throughout the room. They should be placed on various gold or bronze candleholders. Use strands of white lights as the main source of lighting. Have a dance area set up so that guests can dance and the Quinceanera and her court can perform the traditional waltz.

All White

An all-white theme is an inexpensive Quinceanera theme to create. On invitations tell guests that all-white dress is required at the reception. Purchase balloons, streamers and table linens in all white to decorate the room. For table centerpieces use white roses in silver vases. Drape strands of fake white pearls around the vases for a more elaborate look. Hang strands of white lights and white candles.

The food will play a part in the all-white theme as well. A chocolate fountain with white chocolate can be added to the buffet table along with strawberries and pretzels for guests to dip in the fountain. When deciding on a cake, choose an elaborate all-white design similar to a wedding cake and serve vanilla ice cream with it.

Winter Wonderland

Winter wonderland is a good theme for those who live in areas where it doesn't snow, or if the Quinceanera's birthday is during the winter months. Lay down a white carpet for guests to walk on. Around the carpet, place various bunches of white batting and sprinkle silver glitter on them to create sparkling snowy effect. Group various bunches of pale blue and white balloons throughout the entryway and the party area.

Purchase silver glittery snowflakes to hang from the ceiling in the party area. White batting can be strategically placed throughout the party area to look like snow. Hang strands of white lights as the main source of lighting. Cover the dining, food and gift tables with white linens and spread silver glitter across them. Purchase streamers in pale blue and white to decorate the ceiling. Fake pine trees, old wooden sleds and posters with snowy settings will complete the winter wonderland theme.

Quinceanera Traditions

There are traditions that should be incorporated into a Quinceanera reception. The Quinceanera chooses a court that will contain close friends and family members. During the Quinceanera reception, she and her court perform a traditional waltz to entertain guests. The father or father-like figure of the Quiceanera performs the changing of the shoes. During this, the Quinceanera sits in a chair in front of the guests while her father slips the flat shoes off her feet and replaces them with high heels. This tradition is performed to symbolize the girl becoming a woman.
