Banquet halls are not always easy to decorate. Many places have items on their walls that are not allowed to be removed, such as large community photographs and flags. This means that you have to do your best to work around obstacles, and you will not be able to be too picky with the decorating style. Does this Spark an idea?
Walls and Ceiling
It is often notoriously hard to decorate these areas. A ladder, often available in a utility closet, will be helpful. The colors for streamers and balloons or other decoration choices for these areas should match the theme of the party.
The center of the ceiling is the best place to start. Streamers can lead from there to the corners and walls, and a decorative item can be hung to hide the ends. A cluster of upside-down balloons is especially effective.
Ribbon tied to balloons will allow you to hang bunches of them strategically on the walls of the hall as well. This is perhaps the easiest way to decorate these difficult areas.
Dining Tables
Some halls offer choices between round and long tables. The round ones are generally considered to be more intimate while the long ones allow you to add more decorating elements.
Tables lined along three walls will allow the fourth wall to remain free for food and gift tables, as well as the DJ. Long tables can be placed together at the ends, with table clothes placed on each, to create one long table, which can leave room for dancing or other space-consuming activities.
When decorating tables, you can use one centerpiece for a round table, and two or three for a long table. A taper candle in a holder can then be placed on either side of each centerpiece. Party favors, such as candy wrapped in tulle and tied with ribbon, should be placed at each table setting. Plates and such can be individually placed, or laid out buffet-style on a table with the food.
Other Tables
Gifts deserve their own table, as does the cake. Dining buffets may require several tables placed along a wall for one-sided use, or they can be placed away from the wall in order for people to move around both sides of the table. The tables should be decorated in the same style as the dining tables, but centerpieces and candles are not needed.
The centerpiece for the cake table will be the cake. Plates and napkins should be placed on the table on either side of the cake, along with forks.
You can use a money tree or a card box as a centerpiece for the gift table, if desired. You can also use a large basket for small gifts and cards. Decorate the basket with curly ribbon or raffia.
