Orange Painting & Decorating Ideas

Orange Painting & Decorating Ideas

Orange is a bold color that requires some planning when it comes to decorating. Once you've decided to go bold, use colors that complement orange naturally, such as brown and yellow. When you're considering orange, remember that not all oranges are created equally. While you may enjoy that neon-orange color now, you may not like staring at it every day. Does this Spark an idea?

Bedroom

A sunset-orange color scheme creates an inviting bedroom environment. You can paint the walls a pale yellow color and accent it with burnt orange. Incorporate dark woods in the furnishings and use burnt-orange linens. You can couple the burnt orange and pale yellow with a deep-colored rug and light-colored curtains for an environment that is both warm and enveloping.

Foyer

Using a bright, bold orange color in your foyer creates a warm, inviting environment for guests. Paint your foyer walls with bright orange and complement it with dark brown furniture. For any pictures or paintings, use chocolate-brown frames. If you're going to add any fruit or potpourri, consider displaying it in a ivory-colored ceramic dish or a wooden basket atop a table with a brown, maroon or dark golden runner.

Living Room

For your living room, use multiple bold shades of orange. Break up the monochromatic look by use a variety of hues on different walls. For example, use a deep, bright orange on two opposite walls and a pale, almost peach color on the other two walls. Complement these bright colors with neutral-colored furniture with bright accents, such as a beige couch with burnt-orange pillows.

Kitchen

Orange in the kitchen is best when it's not the main feature. Instead of using orange on every wall, consider using a neutral color on three walls and accenting the main wall of the kitchen, such as behind the appliances, with a bright orange color. Also consider a pale yellow color for your kitchen's walls and incorporate orange into your countertops or floors with orange tiles.
