Black & White Decoupage Ideas

Black & White Decoupage Ideas

To decoupage means to adhere cut-out paper or flattened objects onto another object using a special glue. Decoupage gives you a decorative alternative to painting, and allows you to customize the look that you want. If you are sticking with only black and white tones, you can create a variety of decoupage craft projects that are both functional and decorative.

Coffee Table

A unique concept for a black and white decoupage project is to decoupage the top of a coffee table with book pages. The pages of books are white and the font is black, which stays true to the black and white decoupage theme. You can take pages from the same book and glue them down in order, thereby allowing guests to read consecutive pages. Or, you can decoupage a variety of pages from different sources.

Jewelry

Make black and white decoupage pendants or earrings to wear. Glue white tissue paper over neutral pendants so that the backing of the decoupage project is white. For the black, cut out a small design on black tissue paper, which you can center in the middle of the pendant. Begin the decoupage process by adhering the black tissue paper onto the white backing with a decoupage medium. Another idea is to decoupage a bangle bracelet by wrapping black and white tissue paper around the bangle and adding the decoupage medium so that the interchanging black and white tones adhere to the bangle.

Keepsake Boxes

A keepsake box is a functional and decorative item to store small treasured possessions. Consider the items that you keep stashed in the box and think about black and white designs that reflect the items inside. One idea is if the keepsake box holds a late relative's belongings, you can decoupage the outside of the box with black and white photographs of the relative and other family members. Assemble the photographs like a collage so that you have a variety of pictures to work with.

Flower Bud Vase

Turn a generic vase into something artsy and decorative with black and white decoupage. Since a vase holds flowers, collect dried, flattened flower buds. Dye the dried flower buds black and white. Design the vase so that the black and white buds are scattered around the vase in no particular pattern. Decoupage them onto the vase so that the flower buds become one with the object.
