How to Design a Front Table for an Office

How to Design a Front Table for an Office

A front table for an office should be both a functional and attractive piece of furniture. Even if you don't have an employee who uses the front table as a workstation, it should be designed to accommodate the needs of people who will pass through the area. Before you start designing, work through what visitors to your office will expect to find. Complement your office dcor but keep practical considerations, like usability and ergonomics, in mind.

Instructions

    1

Design the front table with a privacy panel so the legs of the person sitting behind it aren't exposed, if the table is being used as a desk.

    2

Raise the front of the table higher than the horizontal surface so paper work, telephones and personal property aren't visible to visitors.

    3

Build display racks into the front of the table for giveaways, company literature or industry-specific magazines for people to read while they're waiting.

    4

Install a two-drawer file cabinet, shelves and cubbyholes in the part of the table that is not visible to visitors.

    5

Incorporate ergonomics into the part of the table that is used as a workstation. Purchase an adjustable chair, build the table a comfortable height and add lighting that illuminates the workspace without creating glare.

    6

Mount lockable folding doors to cover the part of the table that houses the file cabinet and shelving so the contents can be protected if the table is unused.
