A vanity area is an place where a person can sit to perform beauty rituals, such as applying makeup and brushing hair. It usually consists of a vanity table, chair, and mirror at minimum. If you have a deep and large enough closet that you don't need for clothes, you can use this to create a private vanity area. Placing the vanity area inside the closet also helps you save space in your room. Does this Spark an idea?
Replace Doors with Curtains
If your vanity is large enough to fit a vanity, it likely has either a large sliding door or two doors to enclose the space. Remove the doors from their hinges and replace the area with a long, dramatic, decorative curtain instead. A vanity is commonly an elegant area where you sit to make yourself more beautiful, so pick a curtain with various adornments and features such as rhinestones, pearls, or brightly colored patterns. Make sure the curtain is long enough to drape across the floor. This is also more convenient compared to leaving the doors in the closet. You can simply pull the curtain over your vanity table and chair when you're finished instead of struggling to close the doors.
Ideas for the Top Shelf
If your closet has a top shelf, there are a variety of ideas you can implement with that space above your vanity. Store your extra beauty products--including hair tools, makeup, and nail supplies--in separate baskets above the closet vanity. If you like to listen to music while you sit at your vanity, you can also place a portable stereo on the shelf. Play soft, relaxing music or a motivational CD to get you in the mood for your day.
Privacy Shutters
If you're concerned about privacy when you're at your closet vanity, purchase one or two portable free-standing room dividers. Room dividers commonly have three to five panels that fold out to separate one part of a room from another. Again, choose an elegant and decorative divider that fits your style to make your vanity area more welcoming. Make sure the divider is shorter than the top of your closet frame. Insert it as far back into the closet as possible and then pull it out so that you're shielded from sight while sitting at the vanity. This way, you won't have to worry about someone walking in the room as you're performing your beauty rituals.
