Homemade Camp Tables

Homemade Camp Tables

Homemade camp tables can be made out of found items at the campsite with items you have brought with you or constructed from scratch. It all depends on how much work you want to put into your homemade camp table.

Tray and Logs

A good camping table can be built by simply using a couple of small logs, ranging from four to eight, depending on the height you want the table to stand. These logs can be laid in twos parallel to each other and then have two stacked on top of them. Once these pieces of wood have been stacked to the proper height and the top is level, place a tray on the top which you have brought with you, which will work as your table top. This can also be done with large stones you have found at the campsite, as long as they will create a level top for the tray to sit upon.

Tailgate Table

If you have a truck or another automobile with a fold-down tailgate, a camping table can be made out of it which will be as solid as any you can construct yourself. Make sure the car or truck is parked on level ground so that food and drinks aren't tipping over easily on the tailgate. Also, laying down a tablecloth, or maybe one made out of plastic, to protect against any spills in the back of the car. The tailgate also works as a perfect camping buffet table. Two cars can even be backed up within a few feet of each other and a table top or large piece of wood can be laid between their bumpers to make a wide, stable table.

Fold Down Wood Table

A camping table top can be constructed with about 1 to 2 inches of depth under it with borders along the edges. In this area under the thick wood tabletop, install four hinges, one in each corner and each pointing to the corner to its right. These hinges should be attached to wooden legs which are all the same length and are at least an inch or two shorter than each side of the table top. Install these legs to the hinges with a couple of wood screws. These hinges should allow the legs to fold up into the table's bottom when it is not being used, making it easy to transport.
